James M. At the Medical Center of Delaware, Dr. Gill completed his family medicine residency and served as Chief Resident before moving on to a fellowship in health services research. As part of his fellowship he earned a Master’s in Public Health from Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Gill has sought improvements in health care access and quality through his research. For 12 years, Dr. Gill served as Director of Health Services Research for the Medical Center of Delaware and Christiana Care Health Services, where he was awarded federal and state research grants to investigate health care policy, utilization and quality. Ultimately, his work has helped shape health policy and health care delivery at state and regional levels. Dr. Gill has also established himself as a leading expert in the use of computerized medical records and other data systems. His research findings are widely published in national journals of medicine and Dr. Gill is regularly invited to present at national and international medical conferences and scientific meetings. His distinguished body of work has been marked by numerous awards over the years, including first place for research presentations at the 1995 and 2004 annual assemblies of American Academy of Family Physicians. Dr. Gill was similarly honored by the North American Primary Care Research Group and the Pennsylvania Academy of Family Physicians. The General Electric Healthcare User Summit presented him with the MQIC Award for Excellence in 2004. Most recently, he received the 2009 Family Physician of the Year Award by the Delaware Academy of Family Physicians and the Local Medical Champion Award from Delaware Covering Kids and Families in May 2009 . Dr. Gill is Chair of the Subcommittee on the Generation of New Knowledge and is a member of the Commission on Health of the Public and Science for the American Academy of Family Physicians. He also holds a seat on the North American Primary Care Research Group’s Committee on Advancing the Science of Family Medicine. Apart from these and other national professional organizations, Dr. Gill sits on the Board of Directors of numerous state and local groups, including: the Delaware Academy of Family Physicians, for which he is also past-President; the Medical Society of Delaware; the Delaware Foundation for Medical Services; The Delaware Medical Education Foundation; and the New Castle County Medical Society. Working directly with patients remains one of Dr. Gill’s top priorities. He provides care at a family medicine practice in Wilmington, Delaware, and is an attending physician at several area hospitals. Dr. Gill also gives his time to work as a volunteer physician in his community for the underserved. He resides with his family in the Philadelphia area.
